Forestry management
Woodland management, thinning, coppicing and timber extraction for landowners, farms and estates across the North East.
Woodland needs looking after to stay healthy and productive. Left alone, it gets overcrowded, dead and diseased trees build up, and paths, rides and boundaries close in.
Treemasters are forestry contractors as well as tree surgeons. We have the machinery to work at scale, including a forwarder for extracting timber, and we plan the work around the wood, the ground conditions and the wildlife that lives there.
Forestry work we take on
- Thinning
- Removing selected trees so the best ones have the space and light to grow on.
- Felling
- Planned felling of mature or failing trees across woodland and shelter belts.
- Coppicing
- Cutting broadleaf trees back to the base on a cycle, so they regrow.
- Timber extraction
- Moving cut timber to the roadside with a forwarder, with care for the ground.
- Rides, boundaries and access
- Clearing paths, rides, fence lines and tracks that have closed in.
Who we work for
- Private landowners and farms
- Estates and shelter belts
- Developers and land managers
- Commercial and community woodland
- Anyone with more trees than a garden

Questions about forestry management
Do I need a licence to fell trees?
Felling larger amounts of timber can need a felling licence, although garden trees and small volumes are usually exempt. We will talk you through what applies to your site before any work is booked.
When is forestry work done?
Most thinning and felling is best done in autumn and winter, when the ground is firmer and birds aren't nesting. We'll plan the work around your site.
Do you take the timber?
That's agreed with you on each job. Timber can be stacked on site for you, extracted to the roadside, or taken away.
How big a job will you take on?
From a small copse to larger woodland and clearance contracts across the North East. Call us to talk through what you have.
