Tree removal

Safe, careful removal of dangerous or unwanted trees, with the stump ground out if you want it and the site left clean.

Sometimes a tree has to come down. It might be dead or dying, leaning towards the house, lifting the drive, or simply in the wrong place for how you use the garden.

Where there's room, a tree can be felled in one piece. In most gardens there isn't, so we take it down in sections from the top, lowering each piece on ropes so nothing lands on fences, roofs, greenhouses or borders.

What tree removal includes

Sectional dismantling
Taking the tree down piece by piece with ropes, for trees close to houses and fences.
Straight felling
Where there is room to drop the tree safely in one go.
Dead and dangerous trees
Trees that are rotten, split, leaning or damaged by storms.
Stump grinding
The stump ground out below ground level, so you can turf or plant over it.
Waste and logs
All brash chipped and taken away. Logs can be left for you if you'd like them.

Signs a tree may need to come out

  • Large dead branches, or no leaves when the trees around it are in leaf
  • Fungus growing at the base or on the trunk
  • Cracks or splits in the trunk, or a new lean
  • Roots lifting paths, walls or drives
  • The tree is too big for the space and pruning won't fix it

  1. Free quote

We look at the tree, the access and what is around it, then give you a free quote. If pruning would do the job instead, we'll say so.

  2. Booked in

On the day the work area is coned off and the tree is felled or dismantled in sections, with every piece controlled to the ground.

  3. Cleared and tidy

Brash is chipped, timber is taken away or stacked for you, and the stump is ground out if you've asked for it. The site is left clean.

Customer reviews

What customers say about our tree removal

Had a large oak removed from our garden in Seaham. The lads were brilliant - turned up on time, worked safely and left the garden completely clear. Would not use anyone else.

Questions about tree removal

Do I need permission to remove a tree?

Trees with a Tree Preservation Order, or in a conservation area, normally need the council's consent before removal. If you're unsure, ask us when we quote and we'll tell you what to check first.

Can you remove a tree in a small back garden?

Yes. Taking trees down in sections and lowering them on ropes is how we deal with tight back gardens and yards where there's no room to fell.

What happens to the stump?

We can cut it as low as possible, or grind it out below ground level so you can lay turf, plant or build over the area.

Can I keep the logs?

Yes. Just tell us when we quote and we'll cut them to a size you can handle and leave them where you want them.
